Telehouse's Frankfurt campus grows to six buildings
An air-cooled 5.4MW addition is the latest five-megawatt increment on a campus with a 2030 follow-on already planned.
Telehouse has opened Building N at its Frankfurt data center campus, a 5.4MW addition that brings the KDDI-owned operator's facility count in the city to six, Data Center Dynamics reported.
The four-floor, 9,300 sqm building sets aside 2,165 sqm for technical space, and Telehouse says the project answers European demand for data centers that it attributes in part to AI workloads. For now the design is air-cooled, with liquid cooling still under exploration, while waste heat flows into a district heating network serving local residents.
Databurg started the Kleyerstraße campus in 1998, the same year Telehouse was founded, and Telehouse entered Frankfurt by acquiring Databurg in 2021—a deal that handed over a 67,000 sqm block with 25,000 sqm of existing data center space and room to build. Building M arrived in 2023, and the company has already flagged another facility on the campus by 2030. Telehouse also runs data centers in London, Paris, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and New York, making Frankfurt a pivotal piece of a worldwide network.
Telehouse is adding in five-megawatt increments on a tightly drawn urban campus, and the air-cooled design points the same way—capacity aimed at the broad, mainstream tier of enterprise and colocation demand rather than a single tenant that would need a bespoke liquid system. Building N is a five-megawatt answer to where AI demand actually lands in dense Western European cities—in scattered chunks of a few megawatts, across customers who value an existing grid connection, a known address, and a heating-network hook.
Sites with hardened interconnection and operating history have become the scarce raw material of the data center cycle, and Telehouse's campus already has both. Adding a building every two or three years monetizes that scarcity at lower risk than waiting on one giant lease. The stated 2030 follow-on suggests Kleyerstraße will keep compounding its megawatts this way until the site runs out of rooftops.
