In June the firm asked San Francisco planning officials about data center permitting for 845 Market Street, a 350,000 sq ft portion of the mall owned by Macy’s. The firm said it was working with an unidentified potential buyer, and a deal for that portion could be valued around $40 million, according to Data Center Dynamics. No application has been filed with the city, and it is unclear whether any sale has closed. The proposal would also include offices and a public AI exhibit.

The nine-story mall opened in 1988 and closed in January 2026, after Nordstrom left in 2023 and Bloomingdale’s in 2025; the site totals 1.8 million sq ft. Prado Group and Presidio Bay Ventures agreed this year to buy the mall, but that deal collapsed when they could not renegotiate a long-term ground lease with the San Francisco Unified School District, which owns part of the land beneath it.
