20-second brief
  • Magnora Data Center has acquired an operating data center in Oslo from an international telecom operator, Data Center Dynamics reported this week.

  • Magnora DC holds 75% of the facility and Blix Group the remaining 25%.

  • The facility may be "easily upgraded" to the EN 50600 Availability Class 3 / Tier III standard, according to the report.

Magnora Data Center has acquired an operating data center in Oslo from an international telecom operator, Data Center Dynamics reported this week. The deal adds up to 2MW of IT load across roughly 1,400 sqm (15,070 sq ft) to its Norwegian portfolio. The seller and purchase price were not disclosed.

Magnora DC holds 75% of the facility and Blix Group the remaining 25%. That differs from the 50:50 joint venture the pair agreed in August, when they also bought a commercial property near Oslo to develop into an AI data center. Magnora describes the acquisition as the third site in a metro strategy aimed at a network of connected urban facilities in and around the capital.

Blix will connect the new site to its fiber network, linking it with other Magnora DC and Blix sites in Oslo. Magnora said a district heating off-taker for the newly acquired site is being evaluated.

The facility may be "easily upgraded" to the EN 50600 Availability Class 3 / Tier III standard, according to the report. "Taking over an operating facility gives us a fast track to revenue," said Erik Sneve, chairman of Magnora Data Center, adding that the site is suited to customers needing low latency, high availability and data kept in Norway.

Magnora has one live facility in Norway and several more in development across Norway, Estonia, Finland and Italy. The data center unit went public on Euronext Oslo in June. Development-stage capacity depends on firm grid connections and local consent.
