Colt, Relativity and NPS complete London hollow-core fiber trial

The proof of concept connected two Colt network locations in central London, and the ChronoCore fiber is now live within Colt's infrastructure.

At a glance

20-second brief
  • Colt Technology Services, Relativity Networks and Network Planning Solutions have completed a hollow-core fiber proof of concept connecting two Colt network locations in central London.

  • ChronoCore is tipped to cut latency by around 30 percent, a gain the report links to AI workloads and where operators and their customers place data centers.

  • Relativity raised $22m and announced a $40m hollow-core fiber order in August, per PID's records.

Colt Technology Services, Relativity Networks and Network Planning Solutions have completed a hollow-core fiber proof of concept connecting two Colt network locations in central London. The ChronoCore fiber is now live within Colt's infrastructure.

US-based Relativity supplied the ChronoCore hollow-core fiber. Network Planning Solutions said it installed, spliced, tested and validated ChronoCore within an established metropolitan network.

ChronoCore is tipped to cut latency by around 30 percent, a gain the report links to AI workloads and where operators and their customers place data centers. Hollow-core fiber is not expected to replace conventional single-mode fiber, but to serve performance-critical routes such as links between AI training and inference facilities, cloud regions and trading locations. Colt said the deployment "marks an important step towards making ChronoCore available for hyperscaler, neoscaler and enterprise customers with demanding AI, cloud, and data-intensive workloads."

Relativity raised $22m and announced a $40m hollow-core fiber order in August, per PID's records. The London link connects two Colt locations rather than a customer's sites. Joe Scattareggia, Colt's EVP of infrastructure and connectivity sales, described the work as exploration tied to customer demand.
