Armada's Orion jumps to 10MW and makes power the product
The modular data center specialist has decupled capacity again; the real asset being sold is access to power.
Armada has launched Orion, a 10MW modular data center that nearly decuples the capacity of its Galleon family and follows the 1.77MW Leviathan Armada introduced last year, a unit that was itself a roughly tenfold jump over its predecessor. Two near-tenfold leaps in a row are a declaration that modular infrastructure intends to stop playing the edge and start taking campus-scale workloads.
Orion is built as a six-module prefabricated core, each module packing compute, networking, power, and cooling, and the full unit supports up to 2,880 GPUs across 40 racks, is compatible with Nvidia's Blackwell hardware, and is architected to be Vera Rubin-ready. Armada says the unit can be dropped inside existing structures, scaled to hundreds of megawatts across distributed sites, and delivered within months, co-located with distributed power, including stranded and behind-the-meter generation.
Stranded power—electricity with no economic off-taker because the grid cannot move it—and behind-the-meter generation, historically the province of industrial sites rather than IT, are what Orion is engineered to sit beside. Armada co-founder and CEO Dan Wright pitches Orion as infrastructure that is "fast to deploy, easy to scale, and sovereign wherever it needs to live"—owned and operated on their own land and power, "infrastructure the cloud can never be: theirs."
Earlier in the week Armada announced a commercial counterpoint: Fossefall, a Nordic data center company, has ordered five Leviathan modules totaling more than 9MW of capacity, with delivery due by Q1 2027 and projects in Norway, Sweden, and Finland. The deal, valued at "several hundred million NOK," will leave Fossefall owning and operating the GPU infrastructure inside the modules, a structure that lets a regional operator become a compute host.
Fossefall's CEO, Øyvind Vesterdal, framed the purchase around supply chain rather than price: the company wanted a partner "manufacturing in Europe" to "provide a resilient supply chain and reduce exposure to global disruptions" and to turn clean energy into "national control over critical technology." The emphasis is as much sovereignty as procurement, and it matches Armada's design philosophy.
Armada has been building the supply base behind that product: it raised $230 million in May 2026 and unveiled Galleon Forge One, a production facility developed with Johnson Controls that will span up to 400,000 square feet and is expected to create 500 jobs. The factory answers the question hanging over modular build-out—whether these units can be produced in volume rather than as bespoke projects.
The prior generation of the Galleon line topped out at a fraction of a megawatt; Orion is a 10MW block that can scale to hundreds of megawatts across sites, the shape of a product moving from the edge of the network to the core of AI infrastructure. Armada is packaging a power asset and a data center into one purchase: co-location with behind-the-meter generation lets Orion clear as a power project rather than waiting in an interconnection queue, because the GPU is a commodity and the power is not.
Execution is the open question. Units that are "delivered within months" in marketing copy still have to be shipped, installed, and wired to actual generation, and the Fossefall order, while real, is small: five modules, more than 9MW, due in Q1 2027. Armada has backed its product direction with capital and a named customer, but the first Orion orders and the first factory output will decide whether that promise survives contact with the grid.
