Nvidia takes minority stake in powered-land firm Cloverleaf

Nvidia's Cloverleaf stake ties powered-land projects to its DSX spec as the chipmaker spreads capital across the power queue.

Nvidia has taken a minority stake in Cloverleaf Infrastructure, a powered-land provider with a pipeline it claims tops 10GW, Data Center Dynamics reports. Cloverleaf's projects will be based on DSX, Nvidia's reference design for data centers that support its latest CPU-GPU racks, Spectrum-X Ethernet networking, and storage.

The investment is the latest in a string of Nvidia bets on the power side of the AI buildout. This week it put $1.5bn into SoftBank's SB Energy and backed a data center project for OpenAI in Ohio; earlier this year it took a 20 percent stake in Lancium, the power developer behind the Abilene, Texas campus that Crusoe operates for Oracle and OpenAI. The pattern is buildable, power-connected land, not just chips.

Cloverleaf already sells into that demand. It has sold projects supporting more than 7GW, including Wisconsin sites for Oracle and OpenAI. CEO David Berry said the partnership strengthens Cloverleaf's ability to identify and develop high-quality sites. The company has also faced local pushback in some markets — approval risk that now sits on top of the grid constraint.

The report does not disclose the dollar size of the stake. That is not the point. Nvidia is buying a position in the business of power and permitting, then making its DSX spec the template for whatever gets energized there. Power is the binding constraint on the AI buildout, as this publication has argued. Nvidia's capital is now aimed at clearing it, and at tying the sites that clear it to its own hardware.
