Metlen's 12-MW PPA names a buyer, no price
The signed contract moves the company toward contracted revenue but leaves out the number that decides whether the asset earns infrastructure pricing.
Renewables Now reported on September 3 that Metlen and Coca-Cola Tria Epsilon signed a 12-MW solar power purchase agreement, an announcement naming both counterparties and the capacity but no price, project location, contract term, or owner of the generating asset.
Metlen arrives at this contract eight days after its 1.3 GWh battery storage milestone appeared without any of the projects, dates, or capital behind the count. Completion without a revenue contract is merchant risk wearing infrastructure language. A PPA with a named offtaker attached supplies the missing revenue half of that problem, pushing Metlen in the right direction: a developer that wants its pipeline priced like infrastructure has to attach buyers to projects, not just count megawatts. But the push is partial. A PPA that keeps its price private cannot be marked to market, compared with prevailing offtake rates, or underwritten from public information; the signature is real, the economics remain private.
The capacity matters too: at twelve megawatts, the agreement reads less as a major revenue event than as evidence Metlen can find counterparties, the capability its storage milestone left unproven. It does not show whether those counterparties are paying enough to change how the pipeline is financed.
Across the two announcements, the gap remains the same: no number per megawatt-hour. Energy transition assets earn infrastructure pricing when their cash flows are contracted and visible; intermittent generation without such a contract trades as construction risk. Metlen's storage milestone lacked the contract. This PPA names a counterparty but withholds the price, and price is the number that lets lenders underwrite, managers mark, and buyers compare. The company has now produced two kinds of headlines: capacity counts and signed agreements. It has not yet produced a number per megawatt-hour. Until that figure appears, a signed Metlen PPA is a marketing milestone in search of an infrastructure return.
