25-second brief
  • Digi Power X has secured a $200 million debt commitment for a 40MW data center in Columbiana, Alabama, Data Center Dynamics reported on October 14.

  • The money funds a two-phase build: 15MW of IT load in phase one, then 25MW added incrementally for 40MW of total IT capacity.

  • The revenue case for the site rests on one tenant: Cerebras, a wafer-scale chip and cloud company, signed on for the full capacity at Columbiana in May.

Digi Power X has secured a $200 million debt commitment for a 40MW data center in Columbiana, Alabama, Data Center Dynamics reported on October 14. Goldman Sachs syndicated the financing, which is being provided by an unnamed "major lending institution."

The money funds a two-phase build: 15MW of IT load in phase one, then 25MW added incrementally for 40MW of total IT capacity. Digi Power X expects the phases to be delivered by the end of 2026 and the end of the first quarter of 2027, and says the project remains on track.

The commitment is bigger than the developer's cash balance: Digi Power X holds roughly $135 million in cash and has invested about $153 million in capital expenditures in 2026.

The revenue case for the site rests on one tenant: Cerebras, a wafer-scale chip and cloud company, signed on for the full capacity at Columbiana in May.

Company background

Digi Power X, formerly Digihost, built its business mining cryptocurrencies and placing mining hardware at power plants for itself and other companies. It is pivoting to host AI hardware, as other crypto miners have, and in 2025 launched US Data Centers to focus on AI and HPC colocation. Through that unit it operates modular Arms 200 compute units, with one deployment already running.

The company owns and operates data center sites in Columbiana, Buffalo and North Tonawanda, New York, and has acquired an office and laboratory facility in Silicon Valley to develop technology for an "AI token factory" strategy. It aims to transform the New York sites into AI data centers, though Data Center Dynamics reports those plans have been affected by a local data center moratorium signed into law in June 2026.

Goldman is arranging rather than holding the syndicated facility. Digi Power X has not named the lender, and the terms — rate, tenor, draw schedule and Cerebras capacity price — were not disclosed.
