Boosteroid's 30 MW buildout is a low-latency stress test
A small GPU footprint shows the wiring that makes interactive streaming work.
Watching a movie is almost no strain on a network. The data center sends the picture, the television shows it, and the connection can idle. Cloud gaming runs both ways. A button press travels back to the server, and every rendered frame comes forward. That return path decides what the infrastructure underneath has to do. Antonina Batova, Boosteroid's senior vice president of infrastructure, walked Data Center Dynamics through what building that path costs.
The small side of the GPU boom
Boosteroid has been around since 2016 and is far less known than the rivals Batova names: Nvidia, Microsoft, Amazon. The company is betting a smaller operator can win on infrastructure judgment rather than scale. Its servers carry current GPUs. The game renders inside a data center, not on the player's laptop, and the stream reaches Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, and TV boxes.
A Finnish company called G-Cluster first offered gaming-on-demand over IPTV in 2005. More than two decades later, it is gone. Boosteroid shows the category outlived its creator; Fortnite, Call of Duty, Overwatch, and Arc Raiders all run on its platform. Whether a smaller company can make the economics hold is still an open test.
Boosteroid operates in twenty-nine data centers, Batova told DCD. Most are in Europe and North America; two sit in Brazil. The entire footprint draws around thirty megawatts. A typical site runs in the hundreds of kilowatts. In March 2026, the company added capacity in France, Poland, and the Czech Republic.
Against the megawatt-scale AI campuses making news this week, that thirty-megawatt draw is a rounding error. What a player feels is the round trip. The command has to reach the server, and the next frame has to come back quickly enough for the game to feel alive. That constraint shoves hardware toward population centers and network meeting points. It favors a footprint that would look trivial inside a hyperscale lease.
Batova is careful about what drives a location choice. Regional player demand is not necessarily the main factor, she told DCD. The decision hinges on where users sit, where networks interconnect, and what rack supply costs. The interview never enters financial detail. Rent per installed megawatt and lease lengths remain undisclosed, which omits exactly what an investor would need to size the business.
Cloud gaming has to live near players and barely sips power. That makes it an odd fit in a market where deals chase tens of thousands of GPUs at once. Whether cloud gaming ever grows big enough to justify owning facilities instead of renting them remains open. Boosteroid's comments suggest it leases all twenty-nine sites. Buying them would turn the operator into an infrastructure acquirer and give the category a new deal narrative, but the interview does not touch that question. Boosteroid, for now, is a tenant.
